Our little monster turned 3.5
Some birthdays happen right on time. Others become part of the story.
In the middle of building Sunshine Indoor Play from the ground up, life felt like one long blur of construction projects, deadlines, shopping lists, and trying to bring a dream to life. Somewhere in all the chaos, we realized something that broke my heart a little: we had completely missed planning Archer’s third birthday party.
Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. But there was no way I was letting that little boy go uncelebrated. So even if it was six months late, we decided to throw him the most fun monster-themed half birthday party instead.
And honestly? It ended up being one of my favorite celebrations ever.
A Monster Half Birthday Party Full of Personality
I showed Archer all of the new party themes we had recently ordered for Sunshine, and without hesitation, he picked the bright and playful monster party theme. We had the best time planning it together. From that moment on, every detail became a team effort, and seeing his excitement made the whole thing even sweeter.
Monster Details From Floor to Ceiling
This party was themed to a tee.
We decorated with:
colorful monster balloon garlands
eyeball party plates
playful monster wall décor
custom monster coloring pages for each child
bright, fun party table settings
themed sweets and desserts
It felt silly, joyful, creative, and exactly what a little boy turning “three and a half” would love.
Homemade Treats and Sweet Memories
Some of my favorite parties always include homemade touches, and this one definitely did.
We made:
monster cookies
monster Rice Krispies treats
a homemade monster birthday cake made by my friend
The kids especially loved all of the fun eyeball sprinkles. It was one of those parties where the desserts were just as exciting as the decorations.
Archer’s Favorite Part: The Photo Booth
If you know Archer, you know his favorite party feature is always the photo booth. He spent so much time taking photos and videos, being silly with his friends, and soaking up every second of the fun.
Watching him laugh and enjoy himself made me realize something important: kids don’t care if a party is six months late. They just care that they feel loved.
Better Late Than Never
For a while, I felt guilty that we had missed his real birthday celebration while trying to open a business. But looking back now, this party reminds me that childhood memories are not made by perfect timing.
They are made by showing up.
By making time when life feels busy.
By celebrating even if it’s late.
By choosing joy anyway.
Archer’s monster half birthday may not have happened on the calendar date we planned, but it was full of laughter, love, and memories he still talks about. And that matters far more.
